Hi Tracy, so lovely to find you via Claire's 12 Chapters Club. I love the tone of your writing and approach to writing and I'm looking forward to reading more of your words here:) x
What a lovely message - thank you so much for finding me through Claire's community, and for the kind words about my writing. I'm so glad the work resonates with you, and I'd love to stay connected as we both continue building here.
Definitely sounds like my kind of deal. If there's one bit of writing advice I absolutely abhor and call out any opportunity I get, it's "write every day". If nothing else, it's hideously exclusionary.
I so agree - writing should be about depth not speed. On the days I write fast, it's because I've had days to think about my writing. When I was on a book-a-year deadline, I didn't feel as if I had enough thinking space or time.
Hey Tracy, I just found this post on my home I wasn't following or subbing.
It seems like you're making a big change to how you "operated" before. I wish you all the best.
I totally agree with the slow approach and am getting more and more allergic to these Substacks only talking about fast growth etc.
Sharing every once in a while how you got where you got is fine. Some people apparently turn into click-bait personnified once they have lots of subs (or are out of ideas, or are overwhelmed by people "waiting" for their releases.)
Anyway, I wonder if - looking at what I'm doing on my substack - you feel like I am someone you'd like to be part of your community. Let me know.
Thank you so much for this—and I'm so glad the post found you! Yes, I'm definitely unbranding from the fast-growth, always-be-promoting approach. The Lab is my space to explore slow craft, intentional revision, and what it actually looks like to build work that matters without burning out.
Your Substack and what you're creating looks exactly like the kind of thoughtful rethinking I'm considering, too! Always happy to connect with fellow writers who value depth over speed, I'd love to have you here.
Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to read my comment and reply!
Also, thank you for taking a quick look at my substack. That article is actually a thank you to my readers. Everything I write is available for free, no tiers, not paywalls. Time is still limited so I'm very grateful for anyone who chooses to spend time with my writing.
Thank you for subscribing! I subscribed too and am looking forward to keeping in touch <3
Again, all the best for your unbranding and wish you lots of happiness.
I'm so DONE with hustle culture, too! Excited to have found your work and to follow along. Thanks for writing this and creating this space.
So appreciate having you here, thanks for your kind words too. I’m looking forward to getting to know your work too.
My pleasure and yes, so looking forward to connecting this year. ♥️

Hello James. I’m very glad that sounds like your thing too. And, I completely agree with your point that it’s also hideously exclusionary.
Here’s to being an anti-hustle writer.
I so agree - writing should be about depth not speed. On the days I write fast, it's because I've had days to think about my writing. When I was on a book-a-year deadline, I didn't feel as if I had enough thinking space or time.
Oh gosh, I can imaging that must have felt incredibly full on, it doesn’t really leave you with mental, physical or creative recovery space does it?
I completely agree about how it is much easier to write faster when you have had the space to think. It’s very much an anti-hustle writer strategy!
Love it, Tracey 📚
Love you too!

Thank you! Love you too!

Oh, and that post about too much to read... yes.
